Strategy
E-Commerce
Your company has made a decision to further embrace eCommerce. Your suppliers are excited, and marketing is developing a series of programs and incentives to encourage your customers to deal with you electronically.
Before all this is actually implemented, you need to ensure that IT can support your eCommerce thrust. And before you implement the appropriate IT approach, you need to develop an IT Strategy for eCommerce.
You’ll need to define the appropriate application technology for your eCommerce system. And of course you’ll need to detail the essential reporting systems required. You’ll need to ensure that purchasing, distribution and administration systems are in place and that there will be appropriate interfaces to your suppliers’ systems.
Those are the obvious items to address. Unfortunately there are still a number of IT issues to be addressed that are frequently overlooked.
You need to ensure that you have a solution for the security of your data, your customer’s data and your supplier’s data. You need to solve the issue of scalability of hardware, systems and networks. After all, the assumption is that the strategy will work, but no one will know just how well it will work.
You need to put in place a strategy for 100%, 24X7 uptime because electronic commerce can happen at any time of the day or night. From a business perspective, this is terrific. From an IT perspective, this is a problem! You’ll also need a new strategy for systems upgrade and maintenance. You’ll need a new approach to back up and recovery, and you’ll need a new strategy for data availability.
Sagacity can guide you through these issues and the many others from a business, marketing and IT perspective to assist you to move into this new world with the greatest opportunity for success.
